Latitude College encourages student musicians to explore new opportunities through MusicNT’s Trade Missions Program and a newly launched $100,000 Music Export Fund.
The Northern Territory music scene has received a major boost with the announcement of a $100,000 Music Export Fund, designed to support Territory-based artists who are ready to take their music to national and international stages.
The fund, announced on 25 June 2025 by the Northern Territory Government and to be administered by MusicNT, is part of the broader MusicNT Trade Missions Program. This initiative is focused on helping NT musicians expand their industry networks, participate in showcase events, and build the skills needed to navigate the national and global music markets.
Empowering Territory Talent
According to the NT Government, the fund addresses the key challenge of geographic isolation for regional and remote musicians. It will support travel, touring, and promotional opportunities, allowing artists to connect with industry stakeholders, attend major events, and create long-term career pathways.
Latitude College students who are active in the local music scene or aspiring to grow their presence beyond Darwin are strongly encouraged to explore this opportunity. Whether you are a solo artist, part of a band, a producer, or involved in music management, the Trade Missions Program is designed to help you build confidence and visibility in professional spaces.
A Response to Community Needs
The new Music Export Fund was developed in response to insights from the 2024 Regional and Remote Music Summit, which highlighted the need for greater access to industry events and national connections. Minister for Arts, Jinson Charls, said the program aligns with the NT Economic Strategy 2025 and is part of a long-term vision to develop the creative economy.
MusicNT’s Executive Director, Mark Smith, called the support “transformational,” noting that it would allow NT musicians to represent the Territory on a broader stage.
How to Get Involved
The Trade Missions Program includes professional development, mentoring, and direct support for musicians to attend conferences, festivals, and industry meetings. Artists are selected based on their potential, preparedness, and commitment to developing a sustainable career in music.
