Latitude College students can view the progress being made on the Northern Territory Art Gallery, with the works now visibly above ground level including the driveway and ramp for underground art work deliveries in position.
The gallery is over 30 per cent constructed with basement floor slabs and structural elements complete, along with two lift shafts reaching full height to roof level. The suspended ground floor slab pours have commenced, with the first of four polished concrete gallery floors set to be poured next week.
Local company Sitzler is undertaking this project, which also includes the planning and design and for future construction of remaining elements of the State Square precinct.
The project is providing working opportunities with 56 Northern Territory-based subcontractors set to be engaged over the life of the project, with a total of 120 people to be employed during construction including 14 apprentices and trainees. 95% of the total subcontracted work has been awarded to local Northern Territory businesses.
The Northern Territory Art Gallery is a centre piece of Darwin city’s revitalisation, bringing together art, architecture and landscape, while instilling a distinct sense of place.
This state-of-the-art building featuring four large galleries with high ceilings, a grand foyer, dedicated community spaces and a café is an exemplar of liveability infrastructure, helping to attract and retain people in the Territory.
Construction is expected to be completed towards the end of next year.
